I believe that a grounds maintenance program should be carefully designed with respect to proper timing, and follow up-to-date practices recommended by your local county extension service.
A good program should cover all aspects of grounds maintenance - lawn care, pruning, treework, irrigation, bed maintenance, and hardscapes. It can be virtually pesticide free.
Like a picture without a frame, a landscape will not make a strong impact without regular, methodical, maintenance.
A well-planned and executed maintenance program will also reduce your costs over time.
